Re-enrollment and enrollment

The re-enrollment period for 2010 Religious Education has now ended.

 

If you forgot to re-enroll please be sure to return your paperwork to the Religious Education office before the office closes for the summer on July 1. Please be sure to enclose the $100 late fee.

 

We are still in need of catechists and co-catechists. Please contact Marie Pascale at 203-652-1170 to explore your role in this vital  ministry.

 

ATTENTION KINDERGARTEN FAMILIES

 

If your family is registered with St. Aloysius Parish and you have a child who will be attending First Grade in the fall, now is the time to enroll them in Religious Education for 2010-2011. ALL CHILDREN SHOULD BE ENROLLED BEFORE THE OFFICE CLOSES FOR THE SUMMER BREAK ON JULY 1.

 

Enrollment forms can be picked up from the racks of the church or printed from the parish website at www.starcc.com. Follow the link for Religious Education and then select the link for 2010-2011 Form. Complete the form and return it with payment to the Religious Education office at 40 Maple Street, New Canaan CT 05840.

Enrollment for Religious Education 2010-2011 is now underway!

 

All students who attended grades 1-7 must re-enroll to be included in classes in the fall.

 

Thank you to all of the families who already enrolled on Sunday, May 16.

 

For those who were unable to enroll last Sunday, your personalized packets have been mailed to your child’s home mailing address. Please watch carefully for your envelope to arrive in the mail. Enrollment will end June 4, 2010.

 

For Families New to Religious Education, please pick up an enrollment form from the racks of the church or print one from the parish website. Please complete the form and return it with your payment to the Religious Education office.

LAST WEEK OF CLASS

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

 

This is the last week of class. Last classes are Sunday, April 25 thru Thursday, April 29.

Parents, please join with us in thanking and recognizing our catechists who volunteered to serve our families in this weekly ministry.

 

 

2nd Grade: Students who attend religious education classes on Sunday are required to come on Wednesday, April 28 instead of Sunday. Children are to be dropped off at 4 PM and picked up at 5 PM at the church. All parents whose child is scheduled for First Holy Communion on Sunday, May 2 are reminded to attend a mandatory rehearsal this Thursday, April 29 with their child at 3:45 PM in the church.

 

8th Grade:  All Confirmation candidates are required to attend the Sacrament of Reconciliation prior to receiving Confirmation.  This is a vital part of their final preparation. We have scheduled their reconciliation for Monday, April 26. The following classes are to attend the afternoon session from 2:30-3:30:  Dipanni/Gillespie; Miller; Stanton/Dirocco; Redman/Osterndorf; Donnelly/Reinhardt; Sloan/Stant; Scott/Kelley; Crerend; Decker/Toth.  The following classes are to attend the evening session from 7:00-8:00:  Fessler; Sposato/Anderson; Campbell/Walker; Tregellas/Laverack; Hays/Buck; Shilling/Kirby; Messina/L'Herbette; Vasquez/Corbet; Petrucci/Kelley.

 
As a reminder, our Confirmation Masses are on Saturday, May 1 and Mass Assignments are as follows:
 
The following classes will be confirmed at the 10:00 a.m. Mass with a required rehearsal from 6:30-7:30 pm on Friday, April 30th:  Messina/L'Herbette; Shilling/Kirby; Campbell/Walker; Fessler; Donnelly/Reinhardt; Tregellas/Laverack; Sloan/Stant; St. Aloysius School.  The following classes will be confirmed at the 1:30 p.m. Mass with a required rehearsal from 7:45-8:45 p.m. on Friday, April 30:  Miller; Redman/Osterndorf; Dipanni/Gillespie; Stanton/Dirocco; Hays/Buck; Crerend; Corbet/Vasquez; Kelley/Petrucci; Kelley/Scott; Decker/Toth; Anderson/Sposato.  Candidates and sponsors are to be in the St. Aloysius Gym a minimum of 45 minutes prior to their Mass time.
Sponsors are required to attend the rehearsal.  In the event, a sponsor cannot attend, a parent must attend with the candidate.  Important information will be shared that evening.

As a reminder, if for some reason your Confirmation sponsor cannot be in attendance on May 1, you must have a proxy that meets all of the requirements of the sponsor.  If you need to use a proxy, please contact Chris Otis, Confirmation Coordinator at 203-652-1173 immediately to make arrangements.

Sacraments and Last Classes are near

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

 

All classes meet per regular schedules this week.

Looking ahead, last day of classes, are NEXT WEEK, April 25, 26, 27, 28 & 29.

 

2nd Grade: Students who are making First Holy Communion on Sunday, April 25 MUST attend First Communion rehearsal THIS THURSDAY, April 22 at 3:45 pm in the church WITH A PARENT. 2nd Grade Sunday students should now be attending on Wednesdays from 4:00 – 5:00 instead of Sunday for class rehearsals.

 

8th Grade: The final church tours will be held on Monday, April 19.  The classes of Fessler;Campbell/Walker;Messina are rescheduled to this date and are requested to attend the 2:30-4:00 session.  The classes of Shilling/Kirby; Vasquez; Petrucci/Kelley; Tregellas/Laverack are to attend from 7:00-8:30 p.m.  Any Confirmation candidate who has not attended a church tour must attend one of these last sessions.

7th Grade: All seventh graders are required to submit their Community Service Log to their catechists by their last class meeting.  They should have completed a minimum of 10 hours that will be tallied with their hours next year and presented to the Bishop on their Confirmation Day next spring.
 
Confirmation and First Holy Communion Gifts: Please remember that Patrick Baker and Sons in Fairfield is closed -- they still have their location in Southington.  They also have a website -- another good website is www.catholiccompany.com.  And if you Google catholiccompany.com coupon, you will find some online coupons to save you money!!!

Classes will be held on Monday, March 29, Tuesday, March 30 and Wednesday, March 31. No classes will be held on Holy Thursday, April 1. Classes will not be held the week of Monday, April 5 because New Canaan Public Schools are on break. PLEASE NOTE: Classes will be held on Sunday, April 11 and resume the regular weekly schedule.

 

Families of 2nd graders preparing for First Holy Communion who were unable to attend “Making Connections” are asked to come to the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Your packets of information for First Holy Communion will be available at that time. Be sure you have your calendars marked for the parent/child rehearsal scheduled for the Thursday prior to your First Communion Day. Both parent and child must attend in order to insure that all goes smoothly on First Communion Day.

 

We encourage all of our students and families to join us for the Triduum Liturgy on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil. The Religious Education Staff wishes all of our students and their families a blessed and prayerful Holy Week. We remember all of you in our prayers as we recall  the passion of our Lord Jesus and His glorious Resurrection.

 

Grade 8 The following classes are to attend the required Confirmation Challenge on Monday, April 12th:  Scott/Kelley; Hays/Buck; Donnelly/Reinhardt; Sloan/Stant; Redman/Osterndorf; Crerend are to attend the session at 2:30-3:30 in Stapleton Social Hall.  The classes of Campbell/Walker; Miller; Shilling/Kirby; Decker/Toth; Messina/L'Herbette; Sposato/Anderson are to attend the evening session from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in Stapleton Social Hall.  If anyone from the other classes missed attending their earlier assigned session, they should attend one of the sessions on April 12.

 
All confirmation candidates are to attend the Confirmation Retreat with Sean Forrest on Sunday, April 18 from 12:30 - 6:00 pm. Lunch will be served. This is a confirmation requirement set forth by the Diocese.  The retreat will conclude with Mass . Candidate families are urged to join us for Mass at 5:00 pm.

Religious Education Classes Cancelled March 16 & 17

Religious Education Classes are cancelled today, and tomorrow, Tuesday March 16 & Wednesday, March 17, 2010.

The 4th Grade Bake sale is postponed to next Monday.

We will continue to follow New Canaan Public Schools schedules regarding future class status. NCPS status can be determined by calling 203-594-4000 or checking their website at www.newcanaan.k12.ct.us

All class meet per regular schedules this week.

 

1st Grade: Our First Graders have been enjoying their special sessions on the Symbols of Lent. We would like to thank Vicolo Pizza and Trattoria at 62 Main Street, New Canaan for their generous donation of the dough which was used to make the “prayer” pretzels.

 

2nd Grade: Our second graders preparing for First Communion and their families should have attended “Making Connections” this past Saturday. All relevant regarding First Holy Communion was distributed that day. Anyone who did not attend needs to contact the Religious Education office at 203-652-1171 or 203-652-1170 to make arrangements to get the information they missed.

 

3rd Grade: As part of their Lenten practice, 3rd graders have been asked to donate healthy snacks for the Thorpe Family Residences in the Bronx, a housing program for homeless mothers with children.

 

5th Grade: To continue our celebration of “The Year of the Priest” our fifth graders will be visiting St. John Fisher Seminary. Parents are asked to please respond to their child’s catechist when they receive the information.

 

7th Grade: Thanks to the committee of 7th graders who planned our A FLICKer of Hope for Haiti.  The group of Nancy Leville, Izabela Paloka, Aidan Brady, Navin Nair and Jennifer Joneja did a fantastic job running the event that raised $175 for the Hospital Sacre Coeur in Haiti.  We also thank all those who attended, Gramophone Video for donating the movie and the Brady family for their very generous donation of candy for the concession stand.

 

All seventh graders will come to their Lenten reconciliation with their classes on Wednesday, March 17.  The following classes are to come from 2:30-3:30: Borea;Musicco;Eppler/O'Leary; Queally; Dumbauld/LaPolice; Vietorisz/Morley; Wagner/Callahan.  The following classes are to come in the evening from 7:00-8:00:  Engel; Domino; Jorgensen/Geanakos; Hanratty/DeSantis; Millette/Bernard; Lane/Kiesling; Falvey; Harshbarger/Sabene.  Please make sure your child arrives a few mibutes early so that we may start promptly.  At elast one catechist must attend with their class.

 

8th Grade: The following classes are reminded to attend required "Gifts of the Spirit" program on Moday, March 8 from 7:00-8:30 in the St. Aloysius School Gym: Donnelly/Reinhardt; Campbell/Walker; Hays/Buck; Sloan/Stant; Shilling/Kirby; Crerend; Messina/L'Herbette; Scott/Kelley; Decker/Toth; Anderson/Sposato; Stanton/Dirocco. One parent must attend with their child and for those that missed the first session, you should attend this final session. Please arrive 5 minutes early so that we may begin on time.

The following classes are to attend their Church Tour on Monday, March 15 from 7:00-8:30: Fessler; Messina/L'Herbette; Campbell/Walker 

The Confirmation Class will present A Simple Supper for Seniors prior to Stations of the Cross on Friday, March 19th.  We would like all students to be involved in some way if you are not on break.  Several classes are signed up to work on a specific task for the supper as a class.  if your class is not taking on as a class project and you would like to get involved as an individual - we need assistance as servers from 5:30-7:15 pm on Friday, March 19.  This is a great way to serve your Parish as you complete your community service hours for Confirmation. We will also have a special community service work session on Saturday, March 13 from 2:00-3:30 to make our centerpieces.  To sign up to help on either of these dates,  please contact Chris Otis at chrisotis@msn.com or at 203-966-8658.

At this point, ALL Saint reports and Letters to Monsignor should be into your catechist.  If for some reason you have not  turned them in, please do so right away.  We thank you for your cooperation.
